Bike Hire FAQ
Bike hire is available all year round, subject to our availability and schedule. Our primary months of hire, where we will be available and open, are April to the end of October. Out of these months, please feel free to call to confirm that we can fulfill your requirements.
We are open 9am to 5pm except for on a Wednesday when we try to take a day off. If your hire pick up or drop off has to be a Wednesday, please call us to discuss.
Not yet, all of our bikes are currently leg powered.
We have taken over a fleet of 36 bicycles that operated out of Cowes. Apart from the Junior Blast Bikes, all the bikes have all been fitted with Tannus Tyre Armour to protect from Punctures. Although we can't guarantee you won't get a puncture, the tyre armour really reduces the chance of your adventure being disrupted. All of our bikes are serviced and maintained on a regular basis.
We will be happy to consider the delivery of your bikes in the areas local to St Helens, such as Bembridge, Nettlestone, Seaview and Brading. Where possible, please come and collect your bike from us at The Duver.
The cycle routes from The Duver Hire Co will require you to ride on public roads. Our cycle routes will always try to minimise road usage where possible. We can advise on the most relaxing routes and where to find a little more adventure, where required. To cycle on roads, it is advised that children are older than 10 years of age.
The principal hirer must be aged 18+ for any booking.
At The Duver Hire Co, we have a selection of Carrera Mountain Bikes and Carrera Hybrid Bikes for hire. We also have the Carrera Blast Junior Mountain Bike for children aged between 7 and 11 years of age.
A hybrid bike is a mix between a road bike and a mountain bike. The result is a bicycle that's suitable for general-purpose riding over various types of terrain.
High Bar or Low Bar. This is a reference to the height of the frames crossbar. Historically high bar bikes were for men and low bar bikes were for women. Choose whichever you'd prefer.
Our rental rates vary depending on the type of bike and rental duration. Prices typically start at £20 per day. The Blast Junior Bikes start at £12 per day. Each rental includes a helmet, bike lock, and a route map. Although unlikely, mechanical assistance is also always available. The hire price will reduce for consecutive additional days of hire.
Our bikes are available for hire from Woodnutts Yard, The Duver, St Helens, Isle of Wight, PO33 1YB. Please note that although our address remains the same, we are now located within the marina area. Sadly, we do not have parking available, however the National Trust Car Park is only 400m away.
We are open for pick up's from 9am and if you have hired the bikes for a single day, they must be returned to us by 5pm latest that day. If you have hired for multiple consecutive days, the bikes still need to be returned by 5pm on the last day of hire. The Duver Hire Co reserves the right to charge a late return fee if deemed necessary.
For instance a 2 day hire from a Friday will end on Saturday at 5pm. You do not have to pick the bikes up at 9am and a later pick up can be arranged. When booking, we would be grateful if you can make your best estimate for when you will arrive and drop off.
While walk-in hires are available, we highly recommend making a reservation in advance. During peak holiday times, reserving a bike ensures that you'll have the specific model and size that you require, and it will speed up the rental process on the day of your hire.
Yes, this is possible, subject to availability. A half day hire can run from 9am to 1pm or 1pm to 5pm. A 24hr hire can run for any agreed 24hr period. You will have to call to arrange one of these options. +44(0)1983 642 143 or +44(0)7535 585077.
Accidents happen and we understand that. If a bike is damaged beyond the acceptable levels of wear and tear whilst in your care, you will be liable for the cost of repair to the bicycle. The cost will be fair and include the cost of the damaged part and time taken to fix the issue.
Sand and seawater will ruin a bicycle. As agreed in our terms and conditions, if a bike or bikes are used on the beach, we will charge you a £250 replacement cost per bike. We don't want to do this, so please just keep the bikes off the beach.
